The success of sobriety hinges on whether or not a person addresses their spiritual malady. The ego attaches to objects that arise in consciousness as forms to create temporary joy and happiness. These myriad of forms - can be physical, cognitive, psychological or behavioral - are protected by the ego, and appear real.
When this happens, a power greater than you, is behind a veil of illusions. When we fail to see this truth then the spiritual malady exist and until reconciliation happens sobriety remains aloof.
Spirituality
It is natural for people to question creation, I encourage you to begin this quest, if there is a blockage, ask what is causing the blockage? Are you angry at God? Was there a tragedy in your life standing in the way of sobriety and a relationship with a higher power? If you are not ready to accept a higher power, then the cognitive / rational tools will help. I encourage you to open a line of communication with a higher power even if it is out of anger, full of questions, or full of doubt......God invites us to test him for ourselves. (Malachi 3:10) Perhaps you will find an answer someday.
If you ask, where is the proof that God exists? Also ask, where is the evidence that God does not exists? The answer is within you.
Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the ability to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
